Concert Going

This past week a friend called and said he had an extra ticket for the Roger Waters concert outside Indianapolis. For those who may be unaware, Roger is one of the lead singers, founding members and main writers of Pink Floyd. What a great freakin' show... it was honestly a concert experience unlike any other I've been to. Who writes songs like that anymore? I could barely listen to the radio today because everything that came on sounded like poorly composed drivel.

Here was the amazing set list:

FIRST HALF: In The Flesh, Mother, Set The Controls For the Heart Of The Sun, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Have A Cigar, Wish You Were Here, Southampton Dock, The Fletcher Memorial Home, Perfect Sense parts 1 and 2, Leaving Beirut, Sheep.

SECOND HALF: Dark Side of the Moon - the entire album, uninterrupted from start to finish.

ENCORE: The Happiest Days Of Our Lives, Another Brick In The Wall (Pt 2), Vera, Bring the Boys back Home, Comfortably Numb.

I saw Roger when he was in Sydney last. Absolutely awesome!

He played at the Sydney Entertainment Centre where the exterior looks like large grey bricks. Quite apt.

WOW- You witnessed a concert, my friend. The Wall & Final Cut were part of my teenage years and I must have seen the movie 10 times. Very, very much influenced by Roger Waters. One of the first songs I ever sang live on solo acoustic was "Mother", and "The Gunner's Dream." Talk about creating some atmosphere-

It's funny you say no one writes songs like that anymore- a lot of what I write, I have trashed over the years- because it is so HEAVY & personal...and has that late 70's early 80's acoustic intro progressing into hyper-drive electric mega thunderstorm (not that I'm comparing my songs or songwriting to that of Pink Floyd- at all.)

Imagine going on stage every night and baring your psyche so visably, so honestly- like Waters. It's almost like walking onstage and slitting your wrists so everyone can watch you bleed.

Dude- have you ever been in the space you found yourself in on that night, witnessing a live concert before?

Wow- the whole Dark Side of The Moon? Trip out.

...because what's on the radio *is* drivel. And the singing heads are autotuned and heavily processed. It's all fake!

saw a bumper sticker in honolulu this week that said, "Demand Live Music".

Love the Floyd. Comfortably Numb is one of my favorites along with Wish you Were Here.
