Sesame Street Vedanta?!?!?!
The following are lyrics from one of my daughter's Sesame Street DVDs. Is it just me or does this sound like something out of the Bhagavad-Gita!?!?!?
My hair is black and red
My hair is yellow
My eyes are brown and green and blue
My name is Jack and Fred
My name's Amanda Sue
I'm called Kareem Abdul
My name is you
I live in southern France
I'm from a Texas ranch
I come from Mecca and Peru
I live across the street
In the mountains, on a beach
I come from everywhere
And my name is you
We all sing with the same voice
The same song, the same voice
We all sing with the same voice
And we sing in harmony
Sometimes I get mad and mean
Sometimes I feel happy
And when I want to cry, I do
When I'm by myself at night
I hold my teddy tight
Until the morning light
My name is you
I have sisters one, two, three
In my family there's just me
I've got one daddy
I've got two
Grandpa helps me cross the street
My cat walks on furry feet
I love my parakeet
My name is you
We all sing with the same voice
The same song, the same voice
We all sing with the same voice
And we sing in harmony

Ha! Yeah- it does.... very politically correct lyrics, I might add.
“Absorb your mind and heart in Me,
become My devotee, offer solace to Me,
just give humble praise unto Me,
and surely you will come to Me.
I promise this in truth to You,
being very dear to Me.”
from the Bhagavad-Gita
The thing that gets me is that it's not a BUNCH of kids singing, it's one kid's voice.
Creeping Vendantism! I'd much rather have kids singing a cool song like this than "Onward Christian Soldiers."
Darrell,
You bring back haunting memories of me as a child having to sing "Onward...." every morning before saying the Pledge of Allegiance at Bible day school. Creepy…………!
Raffi, right? I love Raffi, and have ever since my daughter was Kalli's age. I've heard Raffi sing this song. He's truly a gentle soul with very fun concerts.Such a smart guy- appealing to mothers as well as their children...for twice the following!
ah... the "bad man Gita"... it's one of my favs...
Wow! You're right Trev! Monism for muppets and moppets! Very cool. (I can oalready hear the religious right screaming about "I've got one daddy, I've got two!)
My kids are now 14 & 16 but we still break-out the tape I made of their favorite Sesame St. stuff like Cookie Monster doin' the Healthy Food Rap - if only someone could sing the first two paragraphs of Common Sense - to me that explains the vendeta reflex well
