Christmas Music
Celeste asked what our Top 5 favorite holiday songs are. Here we go:
5.) "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" (good imagery)
4.) "I Saw Three Ships" (Sting version)
3.) "Christmas Time is Here" (Guaraldi)
2.) Anything from the "John Denver and the Muppets" Christmas album
and #1.) "Sleigh Ride" (especially the Squirrel Nut Zippers or Bela Fleck and the Flecktones versions)
On a related note, I picked up the new 42-track Christmas album(s) from Sufjan Stevens entitled "Songs from Christmas Sing-Along." It's a mix of traditional and original Christmas music in that ever-so quirky, banjo-strummin' Sufjan style. Check it out here.

The moment I opened your post, I thought, "It Came upon the Midnight Clear" was my favorite. Then I saw it was at the top of your list. And, by the way, it was playing on my iTunes when I read your post. No coincidences!
Dude, I Saw Three Ships, Sting, was on my list but Handel beat him out. Trippin!
Interesting story, CBS didn't care one bit for the music Vince composed for the Charlie Brown Special. That it was too sophisticated, too “beatnik” and wouldn’t come across. If the big wigs at CBS had their way the Special never would have been released. They thought the dialogue was too adult and abstract. It took some convincing from the producer to get it aired…and 50% + of TV land watched it and fell in love. Stupid executives!
I heard Vince died in 72 0r 73 in some Podunk town backstage of a brain something or other. It’s a shame because he was a genius. I love his music.
Another song that almost made the list; Natalie Merchant’s “Born in Bethlehem.”
Saw the Sufjan CD, almost, almost walked outta B&N with it. Really liked it. Walked out with lots of classical Christmas stuff...and the new remastered Charlie Brown Christmas Special Soundtrack!
Listen, when you guys arrive here I want to do a Christmas CD. It's where it's at. It's a wonderful time of the year to hear new stuff. We could produce a sweet collection of Christmas music.
I absolutely love that Natalie Merchant song! I think it was from the same album as the Sting....
Cool, thanks for the info on Charlie Brown, etc. I didn't know any of that!
I'd be down for some Christmas music!
Jon - That's too cool!
